Hi, I’m Sofia, a watercolour artist and tutor based in the West Midlands. I create and teach loose, expressive watercolour inspired by nature.

My watercolour journey began during a busy time in my life when I needed something calm and creative just for me. Painting helped me slow down, reconnect with myself and notice the beauty in everyday moments. What began as a personal creative practice soon became something I wanted to share with others.

I’m inspired by Cornish beaches and coastal paths, countryside walks, wildflowers, changing skies and quiet moments in nature. Although the subjects I paint may change, the thread running through my work is always the same: light and atmosphere.

Whether I’m painting a flower, a misty landscape or a seascape, I love exploring flowing washes, beautiful colour mixing and hard, soft and lost edges. Rather than capturing every tiny detail, I simplify what I see and allow watercolour to do what it does best.

As a tutor, I help beginners understand watercolour and develop the confidence to paint their own subjects and ideas, rather than simply copying a finished painting. I teach wet-on-wet techniques, water and paint consistency, colour mixing, simple shapes, light and shadow, all through calm, step-by-step guidance.

Most importantly, I encourage my students to enjoy the process instead of chasing perfection. Every painting is practice, not a test.

Through the online Watercolour Clubhouse and my in-person classes, I aim to create a welcoming place where people can slow down, experiment and grow in confidence.

I’m still learning too. My next chapter is strengthening my drawing skills and introducing more people and animals into my landscapes, allowing me to tell richer stories through my paintings.

At the heart of everything I create and teach is a love of nature, simplicity and calm. I want to help people slow down, look a little closer and learn to paint the beauty around them with confidence and joy.
