Watercolour encourages us to slow down, let go of perfection and enjoy the creative process. A sketchbook gives us the freedom to experiment, make mistakes and learn without the pressure of creating a finished masterpiece.
The Watercolour Sketchbook Club is a welcoming monthly class where you can learn practical sketching and watercolour skills while meeting other creative people.
Each session is guided by me, step by step. We will create loose, expressive sketches inspired by seasonal subjects, flowers, landscapes and nature.
Over time, you will fill your sketchbook with ideas, techniques and inspiration while building the confidence to create paintings of your own.

You do not need to be talented or experienced. You only need a willingness to learn, experiment and enjoy the process.
What will you learn?
Throughout the year, we will explore and have fun with:
Basic sketching and watercolour techniques.
How to simplify scenes and subjects into simple shapes.
How to create loose, expressive sketches.
How to notice and paint light and shadow.
Water and paint control.
Watercolour consistency and its relationship to tonal values.
Colour mixing.
Brush control and expressive marks.
How to create soft, hard and lost edges.
How to add enough detail without overworking and keeping your sketches fresh, light and full of life.
Rather than chasing perfect paintings, we will use our sketchbooks to explore, practise and grow in confidence.

📍 Venue: Red House Glass Cone, Wordsley
👥 Suitable for: Adults and young people aged 16+
📅 When: The first Sunday of every month, starting 6 September 2026 - upcoming session 4th October
🕚 Time: 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
⏰ Duration: Two hours
💷 Price: £20 per session
☕ Included: Tea, coffee and biscuits
Occasionally, a date may change because of venue events or unforeseen circumstances. If this happens, you will always be notified in advance.
What to bring
You do not need lots of materials. Please bring whatever you already have. But if you plan to shop new watercolour materials here is what I would recommend to look for:

1.Paper
Fabriano 300gsm, 25% cotton watercolour sketchbook, or something similar
Or a Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolour Paper Block, 100% cotton, NOT/cold-pressed, approximately 7 × 10 inches, or similar.
2.Brushes
Round synthetic brush, around size 12. - Escoda Perla size 12 or similar
Flat brush - Da Vinci Casaneo Series 5898 Flat Brush size 8, but any similar flat brush will work.
A fine-liner brush for details Casaneo Liner Brush size 6 or similar
3.Paints
A basic professional grade watercolour set - Rosa Gallery Watercolour Urban Sketching 12 Whole Pan Tin Set or similar
Come and enjoy two calm, creative hours while learning new skills and meeting new creative friends.
Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.

Frequently Asked questions
Do I need any previous painting experience?
Not at all. The Watercolour Sketchbook Club is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have painted before but would like to build more confidence. Every session is guided step by step, and you’ll learn at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive environment.
What materials do I need to bring?
For your first session, please bring a sketchbook, a basic watercolour set, one brush, a pencil and a rubber.
Please don’t worry if you only have simple supplies. I’ll guide you on how to gradually build your watercolour kit as you continue with the club. There is no need to buy lots of expensive materials before you start.
What if I don’t have much time to practise between sessions?
That’s one of the beautiful things about a sketchbook practice. Creativity doesn’t need hours. Even a few minutes experimenting with colours, making a small sketch or trying a new technique can help you relax and keep building confidence.
The aim is not perfection. It’s about enjoying the process and making creativity part of your life.
Will I create a finished painting every session?
Sometimes you will, but the focus of the club is not only about creating finished paintings. We’ll spend time exploring techniques, making studies, experimenting with colour and filling our sketchbooks with ideas and inspiration.
By understanding how watercolour works, you’ll naturally gain the confidence to create your own finished paintings.
Can I join if I miss a session?
Yes. Each session is designed to stand on its own, so you can join whenever it suits you. If you miss a month, you can simply continue from where you left off.
