A monthly space to slow down, paint, learn and connect.

Learn to understand watercolour instead of fighting with it. Build a sketchbook full of ideas, techniques and inspiration, make new friendships, and discover the confidence to create beautiful paintings of your own.

Imagine spending two hours each month with a cup of tea, a sketchbook in front of you, and a friendly group of people who simply love creating.

No pressure.
No perfection.
Just the joy of painting together.

The Watercolour Sketchbook Club is a welcoming monthly class for anyone who would like to build confidence with watercolour while enjoying a calm, creative atmosphere.

Every session is guided by me, step by step, so you'll always know what to paint and, more importantly, why you're painting it.

Rather than chasing perfect paintings, we'll fill our sketchbooks with studies, colour experiments, brush exercises and simple subjects that teach us how watercolour really works.

As your understanding grows, so will your confidence.

Then, when you're ready to paint on beautiful cotton paper, you'll have the skills and confidence to create your own finished paintings with far less fear and frustration.

As an artist, I've realised that my sketchbook is where I learn the most. Without the pressure of creating a masterpiece, I feel free to experiment, make mistakes and discover new techniques. It's where I play, explore and grow.

This is exactly what I want you to experience too.

Over time, you'll fill your sketchbook with inspiration, build lasting watercolour skills and gain the confidence to create paintings that are truly your own.

Most importantly, you'll become part of a lovely community where friendships grow alongside creativity.

Is this for you?

This club is perfect if you:

• Are completely new to watercolour and don't know where to start.
• Have painted before but lack confidence.
• Feel overwhelmed by all the advice online.
• Want to relax and enjoy a couple of creative hours each month.
• Would love to meet other people who enjoy painting.
• Want to truly understand watercolour rather than simply copy tutorials.
• Would like to build a regular creative habit you'll look forward to every month.

You don't need to be talented.

You simply need a willingness to learn, experiment and enjoy the process.

What you'll learn

Throughout the year we'll explore:

• Watercolour consistency and colour mixing.
• Understanding values and light.
• Brush control and mark-making.
• Wet-on-wet techniques.
• Creating soft edges and beautiful textures.
• Composition and simplifying your subject.
• Sketchbook studies and creative exercises.
• Seasonal subjects throughout the year.
• Flowers, landscapes, nature and much more.

Every session builds on the last, helping you develop skills that stay with you long after the class has finished.

Thinking about joining the Watercolour Sketchbook Club?

This introductory workshop is the perfect opportunity to experience what the club is all about before our monthly sessions begin in September.

Whether you're completely new to watercolour or simply looking for a relaxed and inspiring place to paint, you'll be warmly welcomed.

During this two-hour workshop you'll discover one of the biggest secrets to successful watercolour painting:

• Understanding watercolour consistency and how to control the amount of water and paint on your brush.
• Learning how paint consistency creates light and dark values.
• Simple brush techniques to help you paint with confidence.

Together we'll paint a beautiful poppy while learning these essential techniques in a relaxed, friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

By the end of the session, you'll not only have a lovely painting, but you'll also understand skills that you can use in every future watercolour.

What to bring

• A sketchbook.
• A basic watercolour set.
• One brush.
• A pencil.
• A rubber.

Please don't worry if your supplies are very basic.

Bring whatever you already have. Throughout the year I'll help you build your watercolour kit gradually, so there's no need to spend lots of money before you begin.

Frequently Asked questions

Do I need any previous painting experience?

Not at all. The Watercolour Sketchbook Club is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have painted before but would like to build more confidence. Every session is guided step by step, and you’ll learn at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive environment.

What materials do I need to bring?

For your first session, please bring a sketchbook, a basic watercolour set, one brush, a pencil and a rubber.

Please don’t worry if you only have simple supplies. I’ll guide you on how to gradually build your watercolour kit as you continue with the club. There is no need to buy lots of expensive materials before you start.

What if I don’t have much time to practise between sessions?

That’s one of the beautiful things about a sketchbook practice. Creativity doesn’t need hours. Even a few minutes experimenting with colours, making a small sketch or trying a new technique can help you relax and keep building confidence.

The aim is not perfection. It’s about enjoying the process and making creativity part of your life.

Will I create a finished painting every session?

Sometimes you will, but the focus of the club is not only about creating finished paintings. We’ll spend time exploring techniques, making studies, experimenting with colour and filling our sketchbooks with ideas and inspiration.

By understanding how watercolour works, you’ll naturally gain the confidence to create your own finished paintings.

Can I join if I miss a session?

Yes. Each session is designed to stand on its own, so you can join whenever it suits you. If you miss a month, you can simply continue from where you left off.
